title: Choosing a price model
description: Set each product option's price on Insy — one-time, subscription, free or pay-what-you-want — plus free trials and crossed-out "was" prices.
---

Price is set on each option (each **variant**), not on the product as a whole — so one product can
mix a free taster, a one-time bundle and a subscription. This page covers the four price models and
the two extras you can layer on top.

## The four price models

1. **One-time**

The buyer pays once and keeps access. The default if you choose nothing else. Good for ebooks,
    templates and downloads.

2. **Subscription**

Billed on a repeating schedule — **monthly** or **yearly** — until they cancel. Good for ongoing
access, updates or a membership. You can add a free trial (see below).

3. **Free**

No charge. The buyer claims it and gets access immediately, with no payment step. A product may
have one free option alongside paid ones — a common taster.

4. **Pay-what-you-want**

The buyer chooses the amount, at or above a minimum you set. You can pre-fill a suggested amount
to nudge them. Good for tips, "name your price" releases and donations.

> **Prices are in złoty**
>
> Product prices are set in Polish złoty (PLN). A paid option must be at least **5 PLN** — Insy rejects
> a lower fixed price. (A pay-what-you-want minimum is the one exception; see below.)

## Free trials, for subscriptions

A subscription option can start with a free trial of **1 to 100 days**. The buyer gets full access
straight away and is only charged when the trial ends, unless they cancel first. Trials apply to
subscriptions only — a one-time option has nothing to renew.

## Setting a pay-what-you-want price

Pay-what-you-want has two numbers doing different jobs:

- **The minimum** is the floor — the buyer can't pay less. It can be as low as 0, which makes the
  product "free and up".
- **The suggested amount** is pre-filled as a starting point. If you set one, it must be at least
5 PLN. The buyer can raise or lower it down to the minimum.

> **Suggested amount does real work**
>
> Most buyers accept a sensible pre-filled number. A suggested amount a little above your minimum
> usually earns more than an empty box.

## Showing a "was" price

To show a higher, crossed-out price next to the current one — the "was 99, now 49" look — set a
**higher original price** on the option. Insy displays it struck through, with your real price
beside it.

This works on **one-time** and **subscription** options, not on free or pay-what-you-want. The
original price must itself be at least 5 PLN and higher than what you're actually charging.

## Which model for which option?

> **You can mix them within one product**
>
> Because the price lives on each option, a single product can offer a **free** sample, a **one-time**
> full bundle, and a **subscription** for ongoing updates — three options, three models, one page. Set
> each one independently when you [create the product](/selling/create-product).

Once the price is set, the last thing to understand is how the money reaches you — the payment
methods, the currencies, and the Stripe account a paid product needs.
